SJLHS Arts Centre
Client: Sir John Leman High School
Value: £1.3 million
The brief required a building that promoted a forward looking ethos and combined a range of modest meeting and office spaces with a large, flexible performance and exhibition area. Situated on a restricted part of the school campus the building envelopes an existing music block and creates much needed space for cultural and commercial interaction with the local community. Initiated in conjunction with Lowestoft Enterprise the building would allow SJLHS to build on its reputation in the arts and provide a flexible, contemporary performance space in an energy efficient envelope. The façade facing the school is windowless at high level and is conceived as a green wall clad in a continuous screen of planting offering a changing natural appearance.
