OWL were asked to investigate possible new uses for the former brickworks site and discovered that one of the original clay pits fell within the Aldeburgh development boundary. Five new dwellings were proposed designed in a style similar to the nearby Snape Maltings and accessed from an existing roadway shared with adjoining properties. The site and surrounding countryside overlook the Alde Estuary which forms part of an AONB and is of Special Scientific Interest.Consequently the proposals generated strong local resistance and construction was not able to commence until ecological mitigation was implemented including the relocation of bat and lizards habitats.
