Client: Beccles Feoffees
Leman House is a Grade I Listed building occupying a prominent site overlooking the River Waveney in Beccles. The practice was initially commissioned to make the building weather-tight and were subsequently asked to refurbish and alter the interior to accommodate both the Town Museum and offices of the Beccles Townlands Charity above. Some Victorian outbuildings were also extended to create a dwelling for the building’s caretaker. The project involved the careful selection of materials and construction techniques in conserving the historic fabric (the insertion of sanitary accommodation, heating and lighting posing particular challenges) and OWL worked closely with other specialists to achieve a sympathetic but practical solution.
