Client: Mr & Mrs Galton
The original 1970’s box dormered house, located close to Ipswich in Suffolk, was in very poor condition and its visual quality and layout were less than ideal. OWL Architects acting as lead-designer and project manager extended, refurbished and substantially remodelled the property adding a gabled wing to the front façade and a new slate roof that integrated an existing garage and provided better first floor accommodation. This created a homogeneous appearance and improved thermal performance. A new oil-fired condensing boiler supplemented by solar collectors on the south facing roof slope replaced an inefficient 3 phase electrical heating system. The completed retro-fit delivers reduced energy costs and is now an attractive addition to its rural location.
