A 4 bedroom house located in countryside outside of Ipswich, Suffolk, with a central double height space forming the principle entrance and reception area. The house is set-back from the road with a gravelled forecourt and exploits a difficult ‘L’ shaped site by introducing a single storey wing to the rear. A traditional scale was adopted despite a contemporary styling to accord with adjacent properties and a number of planning constraints. Constructed from a bespoke timber frame it is clad in rendered blockwork and timber weather boarding. The roof is of natural slate with deep over-sailing eaves. The fabric has high thermal performance and solar water heating in conjunction with an oil-fired condensing boiler contribute to its sustainable design credentials. OWL Architects construction managed this self build property.
