Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk

Role: Architectural Design, Planning Appeal

Scope: New build, Redevelopment

Client: Private

Value: Circa £7m

The proposals are for a new build, mixed-use scheme comprising 97 low cost market and affordable housing units together with 7500ft of retail and commercial space near Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk.  The site is approximately 1 hectare in size, is brown field and occupies a sustainable and important location in the village of Thurston.  OWL Architects' scheme was consented at planning appeal and endorsed by the inspector as ‘beneficially superseding the mundane design previously permitted and effectively introduces a more distinctive ‘landmark’ building alongside the entrance to this important site.  In my opinion this is to the advantage of the street scene and the appearance of the wider locality.’
